Inviting Participants

Inviting Participants

Be clear about what you are or are not offering. The words you use to describe this activity to prospective participants make a difference in setting expectations, encouraging some people to join, and helping others realize that this kind of activity is not for them.

In finding your words, pay attention to what communicates the value of this activity to you. Some phrases that have helped:

  • This is not about the how; it is about the why.
  • There will be no pledge card at the end.
  • It's about the journey, not the destination.

In your letter of invitation let people know this is a very special opportunity to reflect on fundamental questions of their work. Click here for examples of invitation letters used for past conversations.
